Description: Bodkin fragment with an ear scoop, one long eye, and a groove running along its entire length. On the front of the bodkin additional grooves form a sort of washboard pattern along each side of the eye. The ear scoop would have been used to extract earwax that could then be used to strengthen thread and prevent fraying or tangling of thread during sewing.
