Each ceramic ware definition page is set up with the structure shown below, and can be accessed through the links on the bar to the left :

 

Ware Name

Defining Attributes
Presents the most diagnostic features of each ware in general terms.

 

Chronology
Discussion of the time range when the ware is manufactured and found on archaeological sites.

 

Description

Fabric
Describes the body or paste of the ware.

Glaze
Describes the types of coatings used. Glazes are applied to make pots impervious to liquids or for decorative purposes.

Decoration
Describes the decorative techniques used for this ware.

Form
Describes the types and range of shapes manufactured.

Notes
Provides additional information on history of the ware manufacture and archaeological context not covered above.

References
Lists references cited in the ware definitions. Each citation is linked to the bibliography so that when it is clicked the full reference will be provided.
