Redbud

Redbud (Cercis canadensis/Fabaceae). The genus Cercis is composed of about 6 species native to the northern temperate regions. Redbud is a shrub or small tree that reaches heights of 30 feet with diameters of 4 to 8 inches. It flowers early (March – April) and grows best in rich moist soils, usually in partial shade. This is not a commercial lumber species and thus, no technical information is available on the properties of the wood. The wood is hard, close grained and the heartwood is reddish brown.
