September 20 - 21, 2008

Saturday 10 am - 5 pm

Sunday 10 am - 3 pm

Step back in history during this weekend of events co-sponsored by Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum,  the Friends of JPPM, and the Calvert Marine Museum.

On September 20 - 21, 2008, Jefferson Patterson Park & Museum (JPPM) will be the proud host of the War of 1812 North American Grand Tactical.  The Grand Tactical is an annual event that alternates between historic sites in Canada and the United States; and is the largest War of 1812 Reenactment in North America.

Hundreds of British and American reenactors will travel to JPPM, demonstrating camp life and representing scenes from the major battles in Maryland during the War of 1812 through skirmishes and battles.  Organizations and interpreters will have educational displays and hands-on historic craft demonstrations, as well as activities for children.  Food and drink will be available.  Come and experience what it would have been like to live on the Chesapeake

This event is co-sponsored by the  Calvert Marine Museum, who will be bringing historic tall ships to participate both in public programming on Saturday at the Waterman’s Wharf in Solomon’s Island and in the reenactment on Sunday.  Along with JPPM, the Calvert Marine Museum will also co-host “War Comes to the Chesapeake,” a speaker series on such topics as the Royal Navy and underwater archaeology sites of the War of 1812.

More information will be available soon!
