Grasshoppers
& Crickets
Orthoptera Order
Grasshoppers have long powerful legs
used for jumping, flat sided heads, compound eyes, large mouthparts, and two
pairs of wings. The front wings are called tegmina,
and are like beetles’ elytra wings, they are not used for flying instead they
are used to protect the flying wings. Males rub their legs together or with
their wings to either establish territory, warn others, attract females.
